Conversation 2/14/10 Valentine's Day: I love Black People!

5 minutes ago at the corner of my apartment with a Japanese woman I’d never seen before:

Woman: Excuse me

Me: Yes

Woman: Where are you from?

Woman: Oh. I just came back from Africa…

Me: Uh huh?

Woman: I love black people!

Me: Lucky me…

Woman: Ee?

Me: Me, too. I love black people, too! Happy Valentine’s day!

Woman: Thanks

PS: Some Valentine stuff from my kids (-;]

Conversations like this make me miss Tokyo. It is so ridiculous yet so heartfelt.

    "I love Black people"

and dear miss I love Japan…

My next question would have been: Why do you love Black people????

That could probably be a series of posts lOcO.

      Hey Brian,
Yeah, I presumed she'd gotten hot and heavy with one or two during her adventure in the motherland, but she could have had this affliction beforll she went. But you're right…you gotta love this stuff, otherwise you'd go Loco for sure

The same conversation happened to me while I was riding the train one day.

Middle- aged Woman: (in perfect English) Excuse me.
    Me: Yes…
Woman: Can I sit next to you?
Me: Sure (thinking I was in a Japanese version of Candid Camera)
    Woman: Are you American?
    Me: No, I'm African
    Woman: I see…
    Me: …
Woman: What do you think of President Obama?
Me: He is not my president…
Woman: Do you think he is doing a good job?
    Me: I don't know…Sorry.
Woman: I like New York. Especially Times Square
Me: I liked visiting New York many times. I wouldn't want to live there.
Woman: but life in Japan is so expensive! America is better.
Me: This is my stop…see you.

moral of the story: Obama is all black people's president and all foreigners are Americans.

I too, love Back people.Hope you all had a good VD!

Though I’m a white guy from California and not black, I’ve had similar things happen. Most bizarre? A guy drinking next to me strikes up a conversation about which I preferred, sex with a woman or masturbation? He had some good arguments in favor of the latter, but I’ll always go with the former when I have a choice.

    • Locohama 16 February 2010 at 9:07 am Permalink

The latter has it’s moments though. i should write a post about that! lol
      thanks for the shout payne-san

We’ve gotten similar things during our time in Japan.
I think the pros of being black in Japan far outweigh the cons, but the stares get a little ridiculous.
Go black people in Japan! (lol)

    Wild convo~

…and if you were to ask "why?", she would prolly say something like "kakkoi!" I've been blessed with the experience, haha.

I have been fortunate to find this through the blog by Haiku girl. It never dawned on me that one obvious foreigner would stand out over any other. Thank you for sharing! I've got Rosetta Stone Japenese in my ear at the moment. 🙂 I hope to visit some day.

And now, thanks to Frank, I want a chocolate covered potato chip. They are so hard to find! I'm not good enough in the kitchen to replicate them. Happy belated Valentine's Day!

Hey Darla, well I'm not much of a chocolate person but I love some potato chips…
I'm glad you found my blog and I hope you have hours of enjoyment ahead of you. Drop a line anytime!
