Accepting Submissions for Hot Fun in the Summertime 2011
Here is a link to the 2011 Summer Matsuri!!
As some of you may recall, last June Loco in Yokohama hosted the Japan Blog Matsuri and I collected and presented posts about summer activities in Japan and called it: Hot Fun in the Summertime!
It was so enlightening and so much fun that I’ve decided to do it again!
Welcome to the announcement for the Summer 2011 edition of Hot Fun in the Summertime!
First, let’s set the mood with a little tune that always does it for me. If you like, you can listen to it while you read.

Now, as Stevie seeps into your soul and has you thinking about every wonderful feeling summer has ever given you, and that melancholy feeling you have whenever She gives way to Autumn, you’re properly primed. So let’s get this show on the road!
夏の楽しみ (Natsu no Tanoshimi) or
“Hot Fun In the Summertime!”
Here in Kawaiiland (at least in Kanto region), after this rainy season is finished hosing us down, like it or not, summer will be here. Japanese summer is known for its brutal humidity and if you don’t live here- believe me- its not exaggerated. A yard from your front door, the first bead of sweat races down your back!
But, if you’re like me, you’ve discovered a number of great ways to keep cool and/or have some hot fun!
- Open Fire Hydrant
Have you had a great experience (or terrible) here in Japan in summers past? Ex:Went to Fuji Rock last year? Was it a FAIL or a blast? Got pics to illustrate why? Tell us and show us. Share it with the soon to-be sweltering masses.
If you’ve never been in Japan during the Dog Days of Summer, or don’t currently reside in Japan, this might be a challenge for you. But, I don’t want you guys to feel excluded so here’s how you can contribute:
I presume if you’re reading this that you have some interest in Japan. If there’s a particular blogger’s writing style or photographs you like, why not ask him / her directly? Request what you’d like them to tell/show you about summer in Nippon.
Curious about what kind of activities and events Akihabara offers in the summer? Want to know where the best bikinis and Speedos can be found (and the pics to prove it)? Ask a resident blogger. And while you’re at it, tell them to put a link to the post here. If they’re not too busy they might take you up on it!
Have you had a summer romance, or fling, or one night stand, a crazy night at the beach or regrettable night in some club or bar in Shibuya? Or anything that will thrill readers and you’d care to share? Here’s the time and the place to let it fly!
Or, if you have any other ideas, run them by me! I’ll let you know if they’re suitable.
Here’s what should you do:
1-Make a great post
First, go ahead and make an original post to submit to Loco. If you want to submit a post or article previously published, just run it by me first. I’m flexible. Quality is most important. If you do, kindly make sure that the info is not outdated, for example.
2-Submit it to Loco
Following are two ways to submit an article/post:
- Leave a comment on this post with a link to the article being submitted.
- Contact me directly by clicking here.
The deadline for submissions is:
Midnight - Friday, July 1, 2011 (Tokyo Time)
Well, that’s about it. Hope you’ll be participating. Sorry, I don’t have any cash or prizes to offer as incentive to get in on this, but, hmmm….maybe I’ll stick a banner of your blog in a prominent position on my blog somewhere (similar to Quake Book and Raw like Sushi’s currently) Or maybe I’ll even work it out so that it’s in my post for a fixed period. Haven’t rally worked that out yet. But even if if there’s no extra incentive, this is sure to be sensational:
Last year’s “Hot Fun…” was one of the biggest and most visited posts in Loco in Yokohama history!!!
So, I hope you will join in and encourage others to do so as well. I mean, if you’re a J-blogger you’re probably going to be writing some summer related material anyway.
Anyway, I’m looking forward to reading your submissions, and being refreshed by some cool ideas (-:
Before you go, here’s a little more summer music to get you in the right mindset. A little Fresh Prince (AKA Will Smith) and Chicago.
Enjoy!

I'll have something with food on fire and asses wrapped in cute panties!!
PERFECT!!!
It's going to get more humid?
Ya betcha
My advice would be to leave Japan for the summer. I wish I could! For most, that is about as useful as sitting in front of the aircon all day though.
I mainly have kiddie suggestions, probably not what you are into! But hey, the baby pools you can buy at akachan honpo are only about 1000yen and could fit an adult in them! Maybe 2! Take it to a park, fill it up and lay in it!
Sorry I mean to say that advice is about as useful as telling people to sit in front of the aircon all day.
I like the theme… Let’s do it again (^_^)
Thanks Muza! I Hope you’ll do something again. Your piece was excellent last year!!

What is it like to be an American resident in Hiroshima on August 6th? The height of summer is a huge gathering in Hiroshima to pay respect to those who lost their lives when the bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. How does it feel to be an American in Hiroshima on this day?
Thanks JJ!
Thanks for hosting this! I’m looking forward to new ways to fight off this summer funk~
here’s my submission: http://welovekansai.blogspot.com/2011/06/summer-fun-akame-48-waterfalls.html

Thanks Amanda!! Love it!
Okay…couldn’t wait…went ahead and did it.
Though greatness may also be in the eye of the beholder, I’ve done it all except for the getting a little too close the action.

And although I do realize that I may need an editor from time to time, there’s no way this would get done without the dings and scratches…they just show that it is genuine.
Anyway…hope you can enjoy it.
Happy Summer.
Hey Will, Just peeped it! looks good bruh!!! Thanks again!!

Hey Loco,
Just wanted to let you know I intended (and even started) to write a post for this, but then Blogger crapped out yesterday and I’ll have no time to work on it today…that’s what I get for waiting till almost the last minute. Anyway, have a great Summer Matsuri, and my apologies!
Hey Loco,
I don’t see my blog submission up here. So I am resubmitting…

Sorry, Loco. I was planning on doing something for this, but I haven’t been able to spend much time on my computer at all. I had an idea for it, but I couldn’t get to work on it. But I’ll enjoy reading the entries!
Kinda late, but as they say, better late than never
Some real cool entries!
