You’re making it harder and harder to choose just one. I like the way the colors pop on some pics, Jiyugaoka Station Platform, and the ‘texture’ of Kanagawa Earth Plaza 2. I’m a sucker for tilt-shift pics, so you almost got me with Musashi Kosugi Tracks, but it was Kanagawa Earth Plaza 1 that got my vote. it jumped out at me like some huge HAL-esc, security camera, giant eye…?!?!?

KP, thanks for the shout! HAL-esque lol Sometimes I think of the movie and I remember hey that was supposed to be 10 years ago lol I’m glad you’ve been digging them and thanks for voting. I feel like I’m starting to find my “voice” a little with the photography. I know they’ll probably never be taken seriously unless I give up the Iphone cam and invest in a real camera, but for getting used to shooting regularly it’s been a bonanza for me, so i feel a bit of loyalty to it.

Ugh..so hard to pick just one! But I went with Birds in Fog. I like the feeling I got from it.

      Yeah, me too! thanks April

Birds in fog must win, its way too good. In fact I think is one of the best so far.

    • Locohama 27 August 2011 at 6:31 pm Permalink

Hey Creepo, thanks…I have to agree with you. Ironically it was just a lucky shot! ;-)

I used to live in Ofuna, which is near Hongodai and the Kanagawa Earth Plaza. I used to go past it every day on my way to and from work. I voted for Kanagawa Earth Plaza 2, because it’s one of my favourite buildings in Yokohama, and also because of the colours. I never have gone inside the building, though.

Hey Jay Dee, thanks for the shout! Yeah this was like my third time there and I finally decided to snap a few shots. Glad I did, thanks fo voting!

Great shots and so hard to choose again! My favourite this week is Jiyugaoka Station Platform.

You really take these pics with the iPhone? Really? What the fuck? How come when I try to take pics like this they suck? Come out all blurry and shit. And that Musashi Kosugi at night shot is especially impressive.

I voted for Musashi Kosugi tracks, because the way the picture is divided into blurry clouds, then focused houses, then blurry tracks, really makes it work for me.

Still, I dunno, something’s up Loco, you’re pulling one over on us aren’t you? You’re out there with an SLR, adjusting the aperture and all that. It’s the only way to get photos like these…right?

    • Locohama 27 August 2011 at 10:11 pm Permalink

Thanks for the shout Boo! Nah, I wish. I think you need to check out some more shots taken with an SLR. These may be decent for an Iphone or someone with a light tight box with a pinhone in it, but compared to shots taken with a pro-camera they’re not even in the same league. Check out these http://i-cjw.com/ or these http://japandave.com/ and you might want to revise your comment! lol
But thank you nonetheless. You’re too kind ;-)

I need to use Instagram more, I never remember to add effects like this even though it makes iPhone photos so much better. Voted for Kanagawa Earth Plaza 2 :)

what filters are you using I can’t get my colors to pop like that.

  10. C Ohara 1 September 2011 at 6:54 pm Permalink

My fav was the Birds in the Fog.

But I liked the term “Sunshower,” too.

  11. Fernando 2 September 2011 at 8:34 am Permalink

Birds in Fog, without a doubt. It has the most atmosphere and I even kinda like the way the pole sticks out in the middle there. BTW, sometimes your urge to go for really super-vibrant colors makes them dither and look blah, for example in Earth Plaza 1 where you can see that awful pink cropping up and taking me out of the shot, or Sunshower 1 where you can see all those little noise artifacts just having a little party where I want to see some clouds. Shin Kawasaki is neat because it looks more shopped than it probably is.

BTW, I seriously, seriously implore you to consider getting a DSLR. At 2man for a Nikon D70 WITH lens, they are dirt cheap and produce quality work while not being all that difficult to figure out.

    • Locohama 2 September 2011 at 8:46 am Permalink

Thanks Fernando! Useful helpful tips as always! Yeah, I think maybe it:s the resolution on my PC. I look at my pics on other PCs and they look super vibrant while on mine they look just vibrant. As for the DSLR, is that film or digital?

  12. Fernando 2 September 2011 at 10:32 am Permalink

DSLRs are by definition digital, SLR meaning Single-Lens Reflex (in layman’s terms, in mirror thingy on the inside that causes that distinct SLAP in them) with D meaning Digital. It’s a bit old but it’s super cheap and you can’t go wrong for a beginner model. If you want to spend a little more than the D80 or D90 are in the same not-quite-pro-not-quite-newb branch and they are based on the excellent sensors for the D200 and D300 respectively. Either of the three would be a wise purchase for taking your photography to the next level.
