About an hour ago, the principal spied my new book cover on my iPad on my desk, and the following convo took place:
Principal: What’s that?
Me: My new book’s cover.
P: Eeee? Your book? You wrote a book?
Me: Yes. It’s my second actually.
P: I didn’t know you were a writer. That’s great. What does Loco mean?
Me: Well, ummmm…it means crazy, actually. In Spanish.
P: Eeeee? Haha. Are you crazy?
Me: Not all the time, but I have my moments.
P: (nodding his head) I know that’s right. Don’t we all!
P: How many pages is it?
Me: (after a thoughtful pause) About 350. Why?
P: Wow, It’s a real book!
Me: As real as it gets.
P: Well, I want a copy.
Me: It’ll be published the end of next month.
The principal shrieks, turns and announces to the office what I just told him, with some added flourishes of his own. Everyone is surprised and applauds spontaneously.
What a nice way to start the day!
